Every product at Granville General Store has a story and a person behind it. We think that is worth knowing about, so here is a look at some of the makers, farmers and families we are proud to carry.
Rustic Strength: the family behind our refillery
The products in our refillery come from Rustic Strength, based in Mansfield, Missouri, and run by the Adamson family. Their story began in 2011, when their son developed severe chemical sensitivities. Frustrated by the lack of truly clean options, Alicia and her husband began making their own high-purity, toxin-free cleaning products in their kitchen.
Today they produce small-batch, plant-based essentials that are as powerful as they are pure. We chose Rustic Strength because they do not just make soap. They "close the loop" with a circular manufacturing process, which fits right in with the whole idea of refilling instead of tossing. You can learn more on our refillery page.
Florin Coffee, Columbus, Ohio
Florin treats coffee like the craft it is. Sourced with integrity and roasted in small batches, it is the fuel for early mornings in the garden or slow Sundays on the porch. It is also a favorite of ours behind the counter.
P.F. Candle Co.
P.F. Candle Co. was founded in 2008 as a one-woman Etsy shop, and all of their home fragrance goods are still made in-house at their California factory. Their fragrances are formulated for everyday use, with minimal packaging, domestically grown soy wax and phthalate-free fragrance oils.
More makers we love
Meredith's Medicinals, Columbus, Ohio
The kind of remedies our grandmothers kept in the cupboard: syrups, salves and tonics made with local honey and potent herbs.
Golden Beam Co., Granville, Ohio
A hometown stationery line that keeps on giving. Buy a card, and your recipient gets a built-in, pre-stamped postcard to pass along to someone else. It is a small, clever bit of sustainability, made right here in Granville.
The curator's find: sustainable vintage
Not every "maker" in our shop is at a workbench today. Some of our favorite pieces were built to last a lifetime, long before we found them. We, Abbey and Coleman, hand-select vintage pieces during our travels, choosing things that bring history and functional beauty into a modern home. Buying vintage is one of the most sustainable ways to shop: nothing new has to be made, and something good gets a second life.
Why we tell these stories
When you know who made something, you tend to value it more, use it longer and take better care of it. That is good for you, good for the maker and good for the planet. It is also why we will always choose a small producer with a clear story over a big brand with a slick label.
You can browse all of our makers on the vendor spotlight page.
